Biden to Host fourth quad summit with PM Modi, Albanese, and Kishida in Delaware on September 21
US President Joe Biden will host the fourth in-person Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware, on September 21. Joining him will be Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia, and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan. This will be the first time Biden welcomes foreign leaders to his hometown as president.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre announced the event, saying, “President Biden looks forward to welcoming the Prime Ministers of Australia, India, and Japan.The Biden-Harris administration has made elevating and institutionalizing the Quad a top priority.”
“This will be President Biden’s first time hosting foreign leaders in Wilmington as President, a reflection of his deep personal relationships with each of the QUAD leaders and the importance of the QUAD to all of our countries,” Jean-Pierre said.
The summit will focus on strengthening ties between the Quad nations and advancing their shared goal of a free and open Indo-Pacific region. Key areas of cooperation will include health security, disaster response, maritime security, critical infrastructure, clean energy, and cybersecurity.
“The Quad Leaders Summit will focus on bolstering the strategic convergence among our countries, advancing our shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, and delivering concrete benefits for partners in the Indo-Pacific in key areas,” a statement by the White House said.
Jean-Pierre highlighted the administration’s commitment to the Quad and the importance of the partnership between the four nations. The administration has consistently worked to bolster ties within the Quad through regular meetings among the leaders and foreign ministers.
This summit follows the first-ever Quad Leaders Summit held at the White House in 2021 and will set the stage for future collaboration, with India preparing to host the next summit.
Jean-Pierre added, “This summit reflects the deep personal relationships President Biden has with each of the Quad leaders and the importance of the Quad to all our countries.”
