Dr Shashank Joshi, a member of Maharashtra government’s Covid task force, said: “Nobody can predict the timing of third wave. Many other senior leaders and workers have left the Congress in despair. Today in Rajasthan and Maharashtra stories of women harassment and exploitation are heard every day,” she said. Joshi said that the Congress was sure to lose in UP. “Therefore talking about women contesting elections is nothing but a farce,” she said. Joshi said if the Cong...

congress: Priyanka’s ’40 percent tickets to women’ gambit: Can the Congress count on a gender vote bank? | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: In the cold, calculating world of politics where "winnability" is often the sole criterion for choosing a candidate, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi announced on Tuesday that her party would give 40 % of the tickets in the forthcoming Uttar Pradesh polls to women contestants. The move, or rather the gamble, is quite a bold one especially as it is being tried in a Hindi-heartland state where caste and communal identities are likely to have a bigger bearing on the voting patterns. For a party that is trying to find its bearings in UP, the Congress would hope the idea of women's empowerment will draw new voters to its fold. However, for a turnaround to happen, some factors would be crucial - women are one half of the population, but can they behave like a separate votebank? And ...

NEW DELHI. Ethnic wear retailer Fabindia’s new collection launched before Diwali, christened ‘Jashn-e-Riwaaz’, ran into a social media storm on Monday with several users urging consumers to boycott the brand. Fabindia's promotional tweet featured models wearing its Diwali 2021 collection. "As we welcome the festival of love and light, Jashn-e-Riwaaz by Fabindia is a collection that beautifully pays homage to Indian culture," Fabindia said in the now-deleted tweet. The tweet prompted a reaction from young BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, who accused the brand of 'abrahamizing' Hindu festivals. Deepavali is not Jash-e-Riwaaz.
