The actor, in an exclusive conversation with ETimes shared as to what is holding Punjabi Cinema back, and why it is not growing as fast as South Cinema. He said, “ We are starting out now, first Diljit Dosanjh came, and then came Gippy Garewal, so more will come. Another point is that our population is quite limited. If you go and see, the population in South states is also the same, but they love their cinema like a religion. For them, they worship their actors. When will we start going above family films and start making action films or fiction films? Actually we should make films based on our history and culture like Maharaja Ranjit Singh and Hari Singh Nalwa etc, but for films like that, we need budgets, and I’m sure we will attract the biggest names be it director or action director, and at the end of the day it is all about trust.”
“Like today, Diljit Paaji is selling out arenas and stadiums, people have faith in him, and soon after they will also step out to watch our films too, and I’m sure one day our Punjabi films will also do well in the south. It is just a matter of time and trust. South films do very well in our state as well, ” he added.
