Testing times: On the need to mend the National Testing Agency  

The cancellation of the UGC-NET examination on Wednesday, just a day after its supposed “successful conduct” by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is one more load of straw threatening to break the agency’s creaking reputation. Coming as it did after irregularities in this year’s NEET-UG (medicine), and complaints about the JEE (engineering), the NTA is under intense pressure. In some ways, the Education Ministry’s actions are in stark contrast to its response to the ongoing NEET fiasco, and seem to indicate that it has learnt some lessons. New devices to check FASTag to cut toll plaza delays soon: NHAI | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Soon you may not have to wait in queues at toll gates due to technical glitches in reading FASTags strapped on vehicles, which often force toll booth operators to use handheld devices to read the smart tag.The NHAI has ordered a major change in deployment of IT system and hardware at toll plazas for processing transactions through FASTag to make them hassle free for commuters.The highways authority will now only empanel players who have good experience, and they will have to mandatorily procure equipment from manufactures certified by Standardisation Testing and Quality Certification directorate of the ministry of electronics and IT.The STQC certification will be mandatory for equipment, including RFID reader along with the antenna, automatic number plate reader, toll lane ...
