NEW DELHI: Ajinkya Naik beat Sanjay Naik by a significant margin of 107 votes to become the new president of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Tuesday. Ajinkya, the former MCA secretary, secured a decisive victory with 221 votes against Sanjay's 114. The victory makes 37-year-old Ajinkya the youngest president in the history of the MCA, backed by veteran politician and former BCCI and ICC president Sharad Pawar.The election process began on July 4, following the untimely death of previous MCA president Amol Kale in New York. Mumbai Planning To Get New 1 Lakh Capacity Cricket Stadium 68 Km Away From Wankhede: Report

In what comes as a massive development in the Indian cricketing circles, it is being learnt that the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) is mulling to build a brand new cricket stadium. The idea is to come up with a stadium with a bigger capacity in the Amane village in Thane district. "The MCA is looking to build a massive 1 lakh capacity cricket stadium, spread on around 50 acres of open land in Amane, which is 26km off Thane, and 68km from the Wankhede Stadium. The MCA has filled the open tender floated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to acquire the land parcel," a source close to the development was quoted as saying in a Times of India report. MCA honorary president Amol Kale. Amol Kale, aged 47, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) honorary president, passed away following a cardiac in New York. Kale, along with MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik and apex council member Suraj Samat, had watched India’s thrilling win against Pakistan in T20 World Cup from the stadium on June 9. Kale was elected as the MCA president, after defeating World Cup champion Sandeep Patil in a closely-contested battle in October 2022. He was instrumental in the MCA deciding to double Mumbai’s senior men’s match-fees starting the forthcoming season.
