With Congress behind AAP losses in 13 Delhi seats, allies question future of INDIA bloc

New Delhi: A breakdown of Delhi election results show the Congress secured more votes than the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP’s) margin of defeat in 13 seats, even relegating AAP to the third place in one, contributing to the losses of several heavyweights, including former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, former deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and outgoing Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, among others. The results have sparked a fresh churn within the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) with non-Congress parties, including the Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, and the Left, criticising the Congress’s strategy of targeting AAP in what was a make-or-break battle for Kejriwal. “The Congress spoke the language of the BJP during the elections. It sent out a wrong message to the vote...

However, it went on to lose the Haryana and Maharashtra Assembly elections. Dressed in kurta-pajama and a sleeveless jacket replete with the yellow-and-blue scarf of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the poll debutant looked every bit of a dyed-in-the-wool politician. Accompanied by a small group of supporters Thursday last week, Ojha stopped to speak with Rajesh Kumar, a local resident, who mentioned that his son Aman was a big fan of his coaching videos on YouTube. Playing the Punjab card in Delhi

Delhi is going to the polls on February 5. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is trying hard to fight anti-incumbency and retain power by “showcasing” Punjab, the only full-fledged State where it holds sway.A battery of ministers, legislators, and AAP leaders, including Punjab’s Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, have been campaigning in Delhi over the last few weeks to project the Punjab government’s work, in the run up to the Assembly polls. The AAP came to power in Punjab by winning 92 of the 117 Assembly seats in 2022. However, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, out of the 13 parliamentary constituencies it contested, it won only three. This disappointing electoral performance was a major blow to the party. In the recent Assembly bypolls, the AAP won three constituencies — Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Na...
