On January 16, while Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was confronting the man who attacked him with a knife at his residence, his actor wife Kareena Kapoor Khan urged him to leave the attacker and prioritize their safety and medical attention, says the 1,613-page chargesheet filed by Bandra police against Bangladeshi national Mohammed Shariful Fakir, who was arrested from Thane labour camp for the attack.

According to the chargesheet, Kareena had returned home at 1:20am on January 16 after visiting her friend Rhea Kapoor.

“Around 2am, Junu (Jehangir’s nany) came to our room screaming- ‘Jaybaba ke room me ek admi hath me chaku lekar aaya hai, aur wo paise maang raha hai (There’s a man in Jehangir’s room with a knife in his hand and demanding money),” Kareena said in her statement to the police as per the chargesheet. Kareena and Saif rushed to Jehangir’s room and saw the accused robber.

According to the chargesheet, Saif confronted the robber and asked “kaun hai, kya chahiye (who are you? what do you want?)” and moved towards him, following which there was a scuffle between the actor and the accused.
“Saif held him tight with his arms around the robber but the robber attacked him on his neck, back and hands with the knife,” said Kareena.

The chargesheet said another nany Geeta rushed to Saif’s help, but the robber attacked her too and she sustained an injury on her hands. Kareena then screamed – “Jaybaba (Jehangir) ko jaldi se bahar nikalo,” said the chargesheet.

According to the chargesheet, Kareena fled to the twelfth floor room along with Jehangir, Taimur and Elliamma.

After a while, Saif came to the twelfth floor room with his clothes soaked in blood and wounds on his back and neck.

“Saif was desperately looking around anything that he could use to beat the robber. By then, our servants Hari, Ramu, Ramesh and Paswan came to help. We all tried to look for the intruder but couldn’t find him around. Since Saif’s treatment was more important that time, I said- ‘Ye sab chhod do, pehle niche chalo, hospital jaate hai’ (Leave all this, let’s go to the hospital). We all came down by lift to save our lives,” says the statement of Kareena given to Bandra police.

Saif was rushed to Lilavati Hospital by Hari in an auto-rickshaw, with Taimur accompanying them. Kareena later contacted her sister Karisma Kapoor and manager Poonam Damaniya for help. Her manager’s husband, Tejas Damaniya, informed the police. Officers arrived and searched the premises but found no trace of the intruder.

Saif’s statement corroborated Kareena’s version. “When I was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, doctors informed me that a part of the knife had been recovered from my back during surgery,” said the actor.

Mumbai Police have claimed the chargesheet against Fakir is robust, backed by statements from over 48 witnesses, 25 CCTV clips, DNA test reports, and other forensic and technical evidence.
