NEW DELHI: Two police personnel were found dead with gunshot wounds in J&K’s Udhampur district early Sunday, in what authorities suspect to be a case of fratricide, as officials said.
The bodies were found in the Rehambal area inside a police departmental vehicle en route to the STC Talwara training center.
According to Udhampur district police’s statement, the incident was reported at around 6:30am “Today at about 6.30am, Police Station Rehembal received information that two policemen from Sopore travelling towards STC Talwara in a department vehicle have suffered bullet injuries due to firing. Initial investigation reveals that it is a case of fratricide and suicide. Senior police officers have reached the spot and investigation is under way,” the statement read.
SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure, speaking to ANI, confirmed the details, mentioning that the personnel were travelling from Sopore to the training center in Talwara. “The incident happened at 6.30am, they were going from Sopore towards the training centre in Talwara. Police officers have reached the spot and as per initial investigation, it has been established that an AK-47 rifle was used,” Nagpure said.
He added, “Two Police personnel have died and a third police personnel is safe. They will be taken to GMC Udhampur for postmortem and other procedures.”
