NEW DELHI: Issues related to internal security, terrorism in J&K, pro-Khalistan activities, cyber crimes and full implementation of the new criminal laws are likely to come up for discussion at the three-day conference of police chiefs beginning Friday in Bhubaneswar, officials said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and national security adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval will be attending the DGPs/IGPs conference that will also reflect on enhancing and modernising policing by adopting AI tools and ways to effectively counter drone activity emanating from across the western border.
About 250 officers of DGP and IGP ranks will physically attend the conference while more than 200 others will participate in it virtually.
Some officers have been given the task of delivering presentations on subjects such as counter-terrorism, online fraud, cross-border terrorism in J&K activities of pro-Khalistani groups and left wing extremism (LWE), etc. There will be detailed deliberations on how to face all these emerging internal security challenges.
Best practices from states and Union territories will be shared for the benefit and learning of others.
Since 2014, the prime minister has taken a keen interest in the DGP conference. Decisions agreed to in the thematic discussions, with focus on national security as well as core policing, are usually rolled out in the following year, with regular follow-ups now being the norm.
