Gujarat Government Announces Partial Rollback Of Fee Hike In 13 GMERS Medical Colleges

In a relief to medical aspirants, the Gujarat government on Tuesday announced a reduction in fees for MBBS courses in 13 colleges under the state-run Gujarat Medical Education and Research Society (GMERS), which it had recently hiked. The state government's decision to reduce the fees has come after protests by students and political parties. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held in Gandhinagar under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, state Health Minister Rushikesh Patel said. Speaking to reporters in Gandhinagar, Patel said the state government, in the interest of the students, has decided to reduce the fee for 2,100 MBBS seats in 13 GMERS colleges. The Noida Police has arrested a man for allegedly filing a false car theft report after hiding his vehicle and removing its GPS system, an officer said on Tuesday. A police spokesperson said the accused, a Delhi resident, worked as cab driver and had designs to dupe his employer who owned the vehicle. On Monday, Jitendra, 35, reported at Sector 126 Police Station that his Maruti Swift had been stolen by "unknown thieves". "The police swiftly registered a case under section 303(2) of the BNS and formed a special team to investigate the matter," the spokesperson said. Police tracked down the vehicles in 24 hours. The Special Investigation Team of Mumbai Police probing the Ghatkopar hoarding collapse case has found that advertising firm Ego Media allegedly transferred Rs 82 lakh to the bank accounts of some people linked to Arshad Khan, a business associate of the wife of IPS officer Quaiser Khalid. Mr Khalid, who was the commissioner of Government Railway Police when the hoarding was sanctioned on the GRP land, has been suspended for alleged lapses.
