Shootout breaks out in Doda amid manhunt after Kathua ambush | India News – Times of India

JAMMU: Security forces and terrorists clashed in a remote forest in the upper reaches of Doda district in J&K Tuesday, while helicopters, drones, dogs, snipers, and elite military commandos assisted search teams during a widespread manhunt for the suspected Pakistani gunmen involved in a fatal ambush on an Army patrol in Kathua district Monday afternoon, which left five soldiers from Garhwal Rifles dead.“The gunfight started when security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Goli Ghadi-Bhagwah forest following information about the presence of terrorists in the area. Saudi Arabia has sentenced a teacher to 20 years in prison over critical social media posts, Human Rights Watch and the convicted man's brother said Tuesday. Asaad al-Ghamdi, 47, was arrested in November 2022, in a nighttime raid on his home in the Saudi city of Jeddah, according to HRW. He was convicted on May 29 by Saudi Arabia's Specialised Criminal Court, which was established in 2008 to try suspects accused of terrorism, the New York-based rights group said. Three members of an insurgent group were arrested after a gunfight in Manipur's Kangpokpi district today, the police said in a statement. Three military-grade assault rifles and over 1,300 bullets were seized from them, the police said, adding they launched the operation based on information given by the anti-terror body National Investigation Agency (NIA). The CBI has arrested two more persons, including a candidate, from Patna in the NEET-UG paper leak case, taking the total number of arrests by the agency to 11, officials said on Tuesday. This is the first time the CBI has arrested a candidate in connection with the alleged irregularities in NEET-UG, they said. NEET-UG aspirant Sunny, who hails from Nalanda, and the father of another candidate Ranjit Kumar, who is from Gaya, have been arrested, they said. A truck driver and his helper have been arrested here for allegedly stealing around 6,000 kilograms of cashew kernels worth Rs 48 lakh, officials said on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as truck driver Mohammad Sabir (24) and his helper Mohammad Faizan (32), they said.
