Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s car got stuck in a muddy pothole during rains in the Baharagora town of East Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, on Monday, when he was on his way to a public rally. The incident was captured on video by news agency ANI.

The video shows the Union minister’s security guards rushing towards his vehicle after his car got stuck in the pothole, which is flooded with muddy water. Chouhan is then seeing stepping out of the car.

Jharkhand is headed for assembly polls later this year, and Chouhan is one of the BJP’s two election in-charges for the state.

On Monday, he shared a video of his interaction with people in heavy rain before the rally in Baharagora. “In Baharagora (Jharkhand), it is raining heavily and so is the love of the nieces and nephews for their uncle. And this love of yours is our strength,” Chouhan, addressed by supporters as ‘mama (uncle)’, wrote in a post on X.

We Do What We Say: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Chouhan announced on Saturday that the BJP had started the process of selecting candidates for the upcoming assembly polls. He expressed confidence in the party’s preparations, and criticised the ruling alliance, which comprises the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal.

“We have begun our proceedings to elect candidates for the first phase. We have taken the advice of our party members. In the first week of October, we will hold an election committee meeting and then we will make decisions,” Chouhan said, news agency ANI reported.

“Preparations are in full swing. The excitement among the people for Amit Shah’s rally (on Friday) was amazing. People are tired of the dishonest and corrupt government of the alliance and ready for change,” he added.

Regarding the BJP’s manifesto for Jharkhand, Chouhan emphasised that it will focus on women’s empowerment, youth employment, and the welfare of farmers and the poor.

“We do what we say. We are presenting 100 days of work before the people. We will focus on the financial empowerment of our sisters, will focus on youth’s employment, and ensure farmers and poor people’s welfare,” Chouhan said.
