Turquoise: Know its significance and benefits

Turquoise is opaque, bluish green and very rare. You’ve seen it before, in the earrings people wear or the rings they fashion. Iranian turquoise, considered one of the best, is a prized possession of many people if you can afford it—and yes, ‘afford’ is a sentiment that comes into play here because turquoise, primarily because of how rare it is, is extremely expensive.
To put this into perspective, gold is priced at around $60 per gram—which roughly translates to Rs 5009 per gram. Turquoise, in its finest, ranges from $1,500 to $25,000 per gram—which is around Rs 1,25,000 to Rs. 20,87,380.
Now that we’ve established how expensive this stone is, lets understand why it is so relevant to modern day astrology. Turquoise is associated with the throat and third eye chakras, believed to enhance communication, intuition and spiritual awareness.
That’s why it is important: it promotes self-expression, clarity of thought and inner wisdom. Meditating with turquoise is beneficial because it facilitates connection with higher realms of consciousness!
More than that, turquoise is not linked to just a single planet but multiple celestial bodies—however, it is primarily linked to Jupiter and Neptune as it works the best with the abundant quality of Jupiter and the wisdom seeking, spiritual nature of Neptune. It brings good fortune for the wearer and offers protection and enhanced spiritual insight. It is also believed to absorb all negative energies.
In Vedic astrology, it is used as a substitute for blue sapphire sometimes as though it is not a part of the main navratnas (nine gems), it still carries some of blue sapphire’s protective and headstrong qualities.
The signs Sagittarius and Pisces are also two of the signs that will benefit most from carrying turquoise, as they are ruled by Jupiter and Neptune respectively.
In Native American cultures, its seen as a sacred stone that bridges the earth and sky. It’s believed to bring protection, good fortune and health. Likewise, it is associated with the water and air elements, symbolizing communication and clarity of thought.
In some traditions, it is also believed that the wearer of turquoise can sense impending danger, as the turquoise changes colour.
