‘Tainted officials held dear’: BJP MLC takes on Yogi govt over ‘corrupt’ appointments in industries dept

Lucknow: The appointments of allegedly “tainted” officials to “malaidar (lucrative)” positions in Uttar Pradesh’s industrial development department has sparked a row involving a tussle between a member of legislative council from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and a state cabinet minister. Raising allegations of corruption against the “entire department”, MLC Devendra Pratap Singh has said that the appointments show that the government seems to like “criminal officials who deserve to be in jail”. Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ has, however, made it clear that there is “no question of cancelling these appointments”. The MLC made the remarks during a Vidhan Parishad session last week, asking Gupta about the number of officials transferred to the posts of general ...

UP top cop & Yogi’s favourite IPS officer Prashant Kumar out of race to become ‘full-time’ DGP

Yogi’s favourite cop out of ‘full-time’ DGP race Prashant Kumar, Uttar Pradesh’s acting DGP, seems to be out of the race to take over as the state’s top cop sans ‘acting’ in the title. The 1990-batch IPS officer was appointed acting DGP in January this year. When the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government formulated a new set of rules for the appointment of a full-time DGP on 5 November, speculation was rife that Kumar nearly managed to drop ‘acting’ from his current posting. But, Kumar it appears is now out of the race since the UP government failed to initiate the process for him to be eligible for the job in time. Appointment rules state that only those IPS officers who have at least six months of service left can be considered for the post. In Kumar’s case, his retirement from service is d...

Speaking on the first day of the Winter Session of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Yogi claimed 209 Hindus were killed in communal riots in Sambhal since 1947, but the Opposition never condoled with their families. He also spoke at length about reopening of a temple in Sambhal, insertion of the words ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ in the Preamble of the Constitution and charges by Samajwadi Party of irregularities in the Kundarki bypoll.
