Manipur Govt Extends Mobile Internet Suspension In 7 Districts After Restoring Broadband Servic

The Manipur government has extended the suspension of mobile internet services for three more days in seven districts, citing concerns over law and order. The measure, initially imposed on 16 November, aimed to curb the spread of inflammatory content amid escalating violence.   In an order issued on Wednesday, the state government stated that mobile internet services would remain suspended in Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Churachandpur, and Kangpokpi, news agency PTI reported. However, broadband internet services, also suspended on 16 November, were conditionally restored on Tuesday to alleviate the difficulties faced by residents, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and other essential offices.   ALSO READ | Congress Chief Kharge Seeks President Murm...

In Manipur, BJP is a ‘divided house’. CM Biren Singh’s shrinking support base a headache for party

Imphal: Even as the Centre deployed additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) in Manipur to control the renewed outbreak of violence, there is a bigger headache for the Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre, with the party turning into a “divided house” in the state. Monday’s meeting at Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s residence, where a resolution was passed to act against the Kuki militants behind the abduction and killing of six Meitei women and children, was the latest instance of how the Manipur CM is finding it difficult to keep his flock together. While sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said that around 26 MLAs, including ministers, had attended the meeting Monday, ThePrint has also learnt that several among the BJP’s 37 MLAs had absented themselves from the meet...

On Sunday, Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad Sangma wrote a letter to BJP national president J.P. Nadda announcing withdrawal of support.  In his letter, Sangma stated: “The National People’s Party would like to convey its deep concern over the prevailing law and order situation in the state of Manipur. Conrad Sangma’s NPP Withdraws Support To Biren Singh Govt, Blames ‘Failure’ To Resolve Crisis

The National People’s Party (NPP), led by Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, withdrew its support from the BJP-led government in Manipur on Sunday, citing the administration's failure to address the ongoing crisis in the state. The NPP, which holds seven MLAs, has no immediate threat to the Manipur government, as the BJP maintains a majority on its own. However, the withdrawal marks a significant political development. In a letter, the NPP criticised Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s government for its inability to resolve the ethnic unrest that has plagued the state, particularly amid the recent surge in violence. "The National People's Party would like to convey its deep concern over the prevailing law and order situation in the State of Manipur. In the last few days, we have seen the ...
