Attack on CPI(M) worker: Maradu police register case

The Maradu police registered a case on October 6 (Sunday) in connection with the attack on a local committee member of the CPI(M) and two of his friends by a group of people near the party office.A total of eight people have been arraigned as accused in the case which reportedly pertains to the fallout of action being taken against eight supporters of the party following alleged detection of irregularities, including in a consumer store. Over 1,400 dengue cases reported in Ernakulam since September 1

Ernakulam has reported around 1,400 confirmed and suspected cases of dengue fever since September 1.Three persons died of the disease over the past one month. The loss of lives reported over the past five weeks include a 37-year-old woman from Fort Kochi and a 19-year-old and 18-year-old natives of Maradu and Kizhekkapuram in North Paravur respectively. The district has recorded an average of 50 cases a day since September 1. The maximum number of confirmed and suspected cases was reported on September 12 (86). Thirty-two confirmed cases were reported on that day, while the number of suspected cases was 54, according to official data available with the Department of Health. Two workers die of suffocation in waste disposal tank in Thrissur

Two workers reportedly died from suffocation after they ventured into a sullage tank installed at a bakery production unit for liquid waste disposal at Karoor in Aloor panchayat near Chalakudy on September 25 (Wednesday) around 2 p.m.The deceased were identified as Sunil Kumar, 52, and Jithesh, 45, both residents of Thrissur. The 10x10-ft-wide and 8-ft-high tank, which had only a manhole, became blocked, following which Jithesh reportedly volunteered to clean it.Reportedly, the tank had around four feet of liquid waste and hardly any oxygen supply.
