Colombo, Sep 21 (PTI) A curfew has been imposed in Sri Lanka from 10 pm tonight to 6 am on Sunday as a precaution to prevent any untoward incident following the presidential election, police said. President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued a gazette imposing the curfew order. The curfew announcement came as the counting of votes is being held. The first results are yet to be declared. The voter turnout in the presidential election is estimated to be around 75 per cent, according to an official. Director General Elections Saman Sri Ratnayaka announced that the voter turnout in the presidential election is expected to be 75 per cent, which would be lower than the 83 per cent voter turnout recorded in the previous presidential election held in November 2019. Amid renewed violence in parts of Manipur, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government has extended the ban on mobile internet services in five districts till September 20. The affected districts are Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bisnupur, and Kakching. Chief Minister N Biren Singh's government, however, relaxed curfew prohibitions in four districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, and Thoubal, for a few hours in the morning. NEW DELHI: A curfew has been imposed on Tuesday in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts of Manipur due to escalating law and order concerns. The district magistrate of Imphal East, in an order dated September 10, canceled a previously issued curfew relaxation and enforced a total curfew from 11:00 am.
