15-Year-Old House Help Found Dead In Toilet Of Chennai Couple’s Home

A 15-year-old girl who worked as a domestic help at a couple's house in Chennai was found dead in their bathroom, NDTV reported. The Dalit girl had burn injuries on her body. It is reported that she was subjected to torture, including burns from a hot iron and cigarette butts, before succumbing to her injuries at Mehta Nagar in Aminjikarai area. The couple has been arrested and four others have been detained. The police have ruled out sexual assault and they are likely to invoke provisions under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities (SC/ST PoA) against the accused. Over 280 people from 85 families were moved to safety after they reported hearing "explosion-like" sounds accompanied by tremors in the Anakkallu area in Kerala's Malappuram district, PTI reported quoting police officials. The people were shifted to a school building late Tuesday night as the first sound was reportedly heard at 9.15 pm, followed by two more – at 10.15 pm and 10.45 pm – along with mild tremors.
