BJP MP urges Centre to declare 4 Bengal districts as ‘Disturbed Areas’ under AFSPA

BJP’s Purulia MP Jyotirmay Singh Mahato has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah urging the Centre to declare select bordering districts of West Bengal as “disturbed areas” under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), alleging repeated attacks on the Hindu community. In his letter dated April 13, Mahato alleged that districts such as Murshidabad, Malda, Nadia and South 24 Parganas have witnessed violence against Hindus, with the state administration turning a “blind eye” due to what he called the ruling Trinamool Congress’ “appeasement” politics. He claimed that over 86 Hindu homes and shops were looted or destroyed in Murshidabad district recently and that civilians, including a man named Hargobindo Das and his son, were murdered. In Jhaubona village, he said, betel leaf plant...

‘They say they’re Hindus, but…’: Rahul rips into BJP at AICC meet, taunts Modi & his ’56-inch chest’

Ahmedabad: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi signalled Wednesday, from the platform of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Ahmedabad, that the party is aligning its social justice agenda with the idea of pluralism—an apparent outreach to regain Hindu votes that it has lost over the past decade to a rising BJP. “We also call ourselves Hindus, but this is not our religion. Our religion is one that respects all and loves every person irrespective of caste, creed, religion and gender,” he said, referring to the act of a Rajasthan BJP leader sprinkling Ganga water to purify a temple visited by the state’s Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully, a Dalit. “Our Rajasthan legislative party leader, Tika Ram Jully, visited a temple. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, in a press conference, claimed that an RTI query, filed by a citizen from Maharashtra seeking details on the maintenance expenses for the general wear and tear, sewage, electricity, and structural work at 6, Flag Staff Road, revealed it was done at a cost of almost Rs 30 crore between 2015 and 2022. After Waqf land, govt aims to grab Hindu temple land: Aaditya Thackeray

Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday said after Waqf land, the BJP-led government now aims to grab land of Hindu temples for its “builder friends”. “Why talk about Waqf alone, see what is happening in Ayodhya. Lodha and Adani are taking lands there. Same is happening in Prayagraj. It might happen in Pandharpur. They (BJP) are already eyeing Church land. They will target land of Buddhists as well,” he said, addressing a press conference in Mumbai. Aaditya said even Hindus should join the protest against the Waqf Bill. “Tell me one thing that is benefiting Hindus out of it (the Act). Instead our lands will now come in danger. ‘Centre wants to hand over Waqf land to its industrialist friends’: Uddhav Thackeray

In Modi’s appearance at Jahan-e-Khusrau, a telling message of unity ahead of Bihar polls

New Delhi: When Prime Minister Narendra Modi stepped onto the stage at the Jahan-e-Khusrau Sufi music festival in New Delhi Friday, it was not just about melodies and poetry. His first ever presence at such an event was meant to send a clear political message to all. This festival, founded by filmmaker Muzaffar Ali and organised by the Rumi Foundation, has been a major platform for Sufi music, poetry and dance since 2001. Coming as it does just a few months after a Hindu lawyer sparked controversy by claiming that the revered Khwaja Gharib Nawaz Dargah Sharif in Ajmer was once a Hindu temple, the Prime Minister’s attendance felt like a deliberate counter-narrative—a gesture of unity aimed at India’s Muslim community, a group the BJP sees as key to cracking the Opposition’s hold on Muslim v...
