Security guard arrested for stealing NRI woman’s bag from hospital in Delhi’s Dwarka

A security guard, accused in 13 cases of theft, was arrested for allegedly stealing the bag of an NRI woman from Manipal Hospital in Dwarka, the Delhi Police said Sunday.

According to the police, the woman lodged a complaint on April 5 at the Dwarka South Police Station, saying her bag disappeared while she was paying some bills at the Manipal Hospital.

“CCTV footages of the hospital and nearby areas were analysed. In the CCTV camera of the hospital, a man was seen stealing the bag when the NRI was paying the bills of her father at the bill counter. He was also seen fleeing from the spot,” said Ankit Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dwarka.

According to the police, they received a tip-off on April 6 about the suspect at 55 Foota Road, Mohan Garden. The accused, later identified as Ankit, 26, was arrested on the spot.

“He said he needed some money to pay house rent and other expenditures. He went to Manipal Hospital and saw a lady paying the bills on the counter and that she had put her bag on the chair,” said DCP Singh.
