NEW DELHI: Rising star cricketer Musheer Khan, who had an outstanding first-class season, is all set to join the India A shadow tour to Australia for three ‘four-day’ Tests.
19-year-old Musheer has showcased his cricketing prowess by scoring a double hundred in the Ranji quarter-final, followed by a century in the final. His remarkable form continued with an impressive 181 for India B against India A in Duleep Trophy. These consistent performances have drawn considerable attention.
The India A team for the Australia tour will be selected based on performances in the Duleep Trophy and the Irani Cup match between Rest of India and Ranji champions Mumbai, which will take place before the team’s departure for Australia, reported PTI.
It is expected that a few Test specialists and pace bowlers may be sent to Australia ahead of the rest of the team. Musheer Khan and Rajasthan’s left-arm spinner Manav Suthar are almost certain to be included in the squad. Suthar has recently emerged as a strong left-arm spinner, following Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel.
“There are no fitness issues with Musheer, making him a certainty for India A’s tour of Australia.”
Musheer’s ability to score big on important occasions, such as the Ranji Trophy final, and against strong opponents like Akash Deep, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan, worked in his favor. His endurance during long innings also stood out, having played 373 balls (62.1 overs out of 116 overs), and he formed a notable partnership with Navdeep Saini, a tailender.
Ajit Agarkar and his team are focusing on developing Suthar as Axar Patel’s understudy. “We aim to put him on regular A tours so that by the time Jadeja is done, he becomes the second left-arm orthodox bowler.”
Musheer Khan’s selection for the tour comes from his demonstrated talent and consistency, making him a valuable asset for the India A team in their upcoming shadow tour to Australia.
