Punjab Kings part ways with Sanjay Bangar

MUMBAI: Punjab Kings have parted ways with former India allrounder and batting coach Sanjay Bangar, who was their head of cricket development in IPL 2024, TOI has learnt.
As part of their coaching staff revamp, the Punjab Kings had recently appointed former Australian captain Ricky Ponting as their new head coach for a four-year-contract. The ex-Delhi Capitals coach replaced fellow Aussie and former England head coach Trevor Bayliss in the job.
Bangar had joined the franchise in December 2023, after being with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru since 2021 as first their batting consultant, and then as their head coach.Bangar was also the head coach of the Punjab Kings from 2014-16.
BCCI secy invites Apex Council members for new NCA opening
BCCI secretary Jay Shah has invited the Board’s Apex Council members, which include former India men’s and women’s team captains Dilip Vengsarkar and Shubhangi Kulkarni, for the inauguration of the new state-of-the-art National Cricket Academy (NCA) on the outskirts of Bengaluru at 4pm on Saturday.
In a letter (TOI has a copy) to the Apex Council members on September 21, Jay Shah has written: “It is our pleasure to extend an invitation to you for the much-anticipated inauguration of the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The new NCA will feature three world-class playing grounds, 45 practice pitches, indoor cricket pitches, Olympic-sized swimming pool and state-of-the-art training, recovery, and sports science facilities. This initiative will help our nation’s current and future cricketers develop their skills in the best possible environment.”
“Your support in this ground-breaking project has been most valuable, and we sincerely hope that you can spare some time from your busy schedule and grace us with your presence. We look forward to hosting you in Bengaluru,” Shah concluded in his letter.
The BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held a day later after the new NCA’s opening, on September 29 in Bengaluru.
