The NYPD may have the name of Brian Thompson’s killer but New York mayor Eric Adams said it’s better if the name is not released now as it would help the person to hide. “We don’t want to release that now,” the mayor said when asked if police have any name. “If you do, you are basically giving a tip to the person we are seeking and we do not want to give him an upper hand at all. Let him continue to believe he can hide behind the mask. We revealed his face. We’re going to reveal who he is and we’re going to bring him to justice.”
“And the manner in which they were able to follow his footsteps to recover evidence – some of it is known, some of it is unknown – but the net is tightening and we’re going to bring this person to justice,“ Adams said. The manhunt entered its fourth day Saturday and the NYPD has not released any name of the killer.
The murder brought out the rage of a section of the common people who lauded the killer and celebrated the murder of the insurance company CEO recounting their harrowing experience of dealing with their insurance payout from UnitedHealthcare.
Though the killer managed to dodge the police for three days and counting, investigators think it was a lone-wolf killer but he did not act out of momentary rage. It was premeditated murder and the killer, experts think, might be a disgruntled staff or customer.
Investigation so far
The investigators found a mobile phone, his backpack, and traced back his journey from the hostel where he was staying before the murder. The killer’s photos from surveillance footage have been circulated with many tip-offs coming from the people; the details of his backpack emerging. Investigators said he fled the murder spot on a bike and then probably left NYC on a bus.
