New Criminal Laws Take Effect: Amid Shah Refutes Opposition’s No Discussion Charge

The three new criminal laws have come into force from today, replacing the colonial-era Indian penal code, the criminal procedure code and the Indian Evidence Act. While several opposition parties claimed that the new laws were enforced in a hurried manner, without sufficient consultation, Union Home Minister Amit Shah refuted the charge, retorting that it was the opposition which did not want to participate. The three new criminal laws have come into force from today, replacing the colonial-era Indian penal code, the criminal procedure code and the Indian Evidence Act.
