Heavy Rains Forecast In Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat
In its press release, the IMD warned of widespread light to moderate rainfall across Konkan region and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Gujarat over the next four days, with isolated heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in certain areas.
Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded in various parts of Konkan and Goa. The highest was 19 cm in Pernem (North Goa), followed by 16 cm in Sawantwadi (Sindhudurg), and 15 cm in Palghar. In Mumbai, the Santacruz observatory recorded 7 cm of rainfall, contributing to widespread waterlogging in several parts of the city.
The heavy rainfall also triggered warnings of moderate flash flood risks over watersheds and neighbourhoods in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, south Gujarat, and parts of Maharashtra and Goa.
As per the IMD’s forecast, isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra on 25th and 26th September, and in Gujarat on 26th September, raising concerns of further disruptions.
The IMD has advised citizens to stay indoors and avoid waterlogged areas, as authorities work to manage the fallout from the intense downpours.
