KANPUR: A Kanpur court on Wednesday awarded life imprisonment to a youth for the murder of his neighbour and robbery at her house seven years ago when he was barely 19. According to police records, 52-year-old Nisha Kejriwal’s body was found lying in a pool of blood inside her house on July 12, 2017.
Picking up clues on the basis of eyewitness accounts, police managed to establish the presence of Nisha’s neighbour Aditya Narayan Singh at the crime scene.
It was thereafter established that he had murdered the woman for robbery. Nisha was alone at home when Aditya struck as her husband Arun Kejriwal and son were at their shop and her daughter was in school, said officials.
Additional sessions judge Azad Singh also observed in his order that the investigation officer, Rajan Kumar Rawat, had made several significant errors. “Therefore, a copy of this order be sent to the commissioner of police for appropriate action,” the order said.
Additional district government counsel Vinod Tripathi submitted that the accused had committed a heinous crime and had killed the 52-year-old woman for loot. “He had hit as many as 13 blows of hammer and knife on the face of Nisha Kejriwal. Therefore, the accused should be given capital punishment,’ Tripathi argued. The convict, Aditya, had family relations with the Kejriwals. He very well knew the routine of each member of the house. His presence at the time of offence was recorded near the spot in the CCTV footage. Police recovered gold and silver ornaments and Rs 1.4 lakh cash from Aditya’s house during investigation.
An official privy to the investigation said that prior to the murder, Aditya was in Mumbai for three years. He had cleared CLAT and studied LLB first semester only. He was expelled from the college due to his bad habits.
