The Gurgaon city police Saturday arrested two men in connection with a shooting near Iris Tech Park at Sector 48 on April 10. The main accused, Som Shukla, allegedly shot a colleague of his female friend due to suspected romantic rivalry, said the police.

Shukla allegedly purchased the weapon used in the crime from the other arrested accused, Rinku. Shukla, who hails from Konch village at Gandhi Nagar in the Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh, was nabbed from Lucknow, while Rinku was taken into custody from his hometown Mathura.

The police filed an FIR lodged on April 11 based on the account of the victim, Ajit Yadav, 24, an employee of a debt recovery company based out of Welldone Tech Park. Shukla earlier worked for a company based out of the same tech park, said the police.

According to the complainant, three or four days before the incident, Shukla saw him speaking with a woman, Bhoomi, 23, near their office. He allegedly threatened Yadav, saying, “She is my friend; stop talking to her, or you will lose your life.”

On April 10, at around 8 pm, as Yadav and Bhumi were leaving office, Shukla allegedly confronted them on the road outside and reiterated his warning. He got irked by the complainant’s response that the woman was his friend, too, said the police.

As Yadav approached his motorcycle near the exit gate, Shukla allegedly pulled out a pistol and fired at him. The complainant ran into the Welldone Tech Park building to escape, but Shukla allegedly pursued him and fired another shot near the SBI counter inside the building. The bullet narrowly missed the complainant’s temple, and he ultimately managed to hide inside the building, said the police.

A team from the Sadar police station received information about the shooting from the control room and promptly arrived at the scene. The police recovered two empty bullet casings from the crime scene. Station House Officer Sunil Kumar said an investigation is ongoing.
