
The Delhi Police Friday arrested a man for allegedly trying to extort Rs 13 from a local YouTuber. He threatened the YouTuber’s life if he did not hand over a part of his wife’s recently inherited property, said the police.
The complainant said his wife recently inherited a vast amount of property following her father’s death six months ago. On Wednesday, the 24-year-old YouTuber received a call around 8.27 pm, where the caller identified himself as Vishal, also known as Katia, claiming to be a well-known criminal in the area.
The caller mentioned that he was aware of the property inherited by the complainant’s wife, particularly her share of 12 killa of land, estimating that one killa was valued at Rs 35 crore.
“Acting on the complaint, a raiding team was constituted. Using technical surveillance and human intelligence, the team identified the accused Vishal, 25, a resident of Village Bawana, who was expected to arrive near Nirmal Vatika in Bawana. A trap was laid, and the accused was successfully apprehended. The mobile phone used for making the extortion call was recovered from his possession,” said Nidhin Valsan, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer North.
Vishal has one prior criminal involvement, as per the police. The mobile phone used for the threatening calls was seized as evidence.
The police filed an FIR under Section 308(4) (extortion) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
