Delimitation meet

The apprehensions of the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister that the delimitation exercise based on population would ultimately result in a loss of political strength and bargaining power with the Centre as far as funds are concerned are totally unwarranted and without basis in the absence of any basic data. When the Centre has not announced and started the process of delimitation, there is a non-availability of Census data and no process has commenced by the Centre, and, above all, the Home Minister has said that the southern States will not be affected, the meeting and the resolution passed by the Joint Action Committee on Fair Delimitation are just drama and a waste of money. The meeting only strengthens the perception that the meet is to divert attention from scams and the deterioration of law and order in the State.

Trust in India’s judiciary

The statement by a former Chief Justice of India is alarming (“Citizens are losing trust in Indian judiciary, says former CJI, Ramana”, March 23), as it highlights critical issues — from citizens losing trust in the judiciary, to the language barrier in proceedings. It is disheartening that people in high positions often voice their apprehensions only after retirement. This pattern creates unnecessary chaos and fear. Having served in the Supreme Court for long, including as the CJI, one would have expected him to take steps to find solutions for a few of these challenges during his tenure. The judiciary is one of the four pillars of our democracy, and ensuring its efficiency and accessibility should be a continuous effort — not a post-retirement reflection. A proactive approach from those in power is essential to uphold trust in and strengthen our judicial system.
