Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has officially set the stage for the 2024–25 students’ union elections, with polling scheduled for April 25 and ballot counting to begin the same evening. According to a notice issued by the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) Election Committee on Friday, final results will be declared by April 28.
The committee outlined the full election schedule in a formal letter to senior wardens and university stakeholders. Polling will be conducted in two phases — from 9 am to 1 pm and 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm — on Friday, April 25. Counting of ballots is set to commence at 9 pm that night.
A preliminary timeline of events has already begun, with the display of the tentative voters’ list scheduled for April 13. Nomination filing begins on April 15 and culminates in a press conference and candidate briefing on April 16.
This will be followed by school-level GBMs (General Body Meetings) from April 17 and a university-wide GBM on April 22.
The highly anticipated presidential debate is scheduled for April 23, with April 24 marked as a “No Campaign Day.”
In its notification, the committee acknowledged the intense interest and logistical complexity the polls generate. “The process of counting, as has been observed over the years, may last till April 28,” the letter read, appealing for “necessary cooperation” from hostel authorities and university offices to ensure smooth conduct.
The return of JNUSU elections last year, after a four-year hiatus, was a major political event on campus.

Last year, the United Left Panel retained its hold over the Jawaharlal JNUSU, clinching three posts out of four. The fourth post was won by a BAPSA candidate backed by the Left alliance.
