Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Jigra‘ which released on Friday was always considered a niche movie, ever since the trailer came out. Hence, the expectations from the movie were not much. The most attracting factor for people to go and watch the movie was Alia, hence, the opening number is considered quite decent. Also because it wasn’t a big budget movie.
On its first day, ‘Jigra’ has managed to make Rs 4.25 crore at the domestic box office.Jigra’ had sold around 18,000 tickets at the top three national chains. But this number was up to Thursday evening. The movie had released in around 2200 to 2500 screens and was expected to clock in around Rs 4.5 crore to 5 crore on its opening day.

This has come true as the movie has scored in the same range. Meanwhile, another film which released on Friday, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video‘ had made a business of around Rs 5 crore. So, it did have an edge over ‘Jigra’. Even this number for the Rajkummar Rao, Triptii Dimri starrer is considered decent. However, both these movies seemed to have been largely affected by the navratri time, in the evening and late night shows. During this period, of course, a large section of the audience prefers to go for garba and dandiya rather than watch a movie at a theatre.
But the Dussehra holiday may help both these movies to see a jump in the numbers and the Sunday numbers post Dussehra, may be even better.
