NEW DELHI: Tickets for the opening day of the Boxing Day Test, scheduled to start on December 26, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) have sold out, reflecting the immense public interest in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The demand for tickets follows a thrilling second Test in Adelaide, where Australia levelled the series 1-1 with a commanding 10-wicket victory over India.
The Adelaide match drew record crowds, with 135,012 attendees over three days, surpassing the previous five-day record of 113,009 for a Test against India in 2014-15.

Daily attendance milestones were shattered, with Day 1 and Day 2 welcoming 50,186 and 51,642 spectators respectively, ranking among the highest single-day crowds in Adelaide Oval’s Test history.
A media release also confirms that television and digital engagement also soared during the Adelaide Test. Over six of the seven sessions, viewer averages exceeded one million, with four sessions drawing more than 1.4 million viewers.
On the field, Pat Cummins’ 5-57 led Australia’s bowling attack as they dismissed India for 175 in their second innings.
India’s hopes rested on Rishabh Pant, but Mitchell Starc dismissed him early on the final day. Cummins capitalized on short-pitched deliveries to remove the lower order, while Scott Boland chipped in with 3-51 in his return to the side.

Needing just 19 runs to secure victory, Australia comfortably reached the target in 3.2 overs, led by Nathan McSweeney and Usman Khawaja.
Earlier in the match, Travis Head’s aggressive 140 propelled Australia to a 157-run first-innings lead.
The series continues with the third Test in Brisbane starting December 14, followed by matches in Melbourne and Sydney.
