Abhishek Bachchan’s latest release, ‘I Want To Talk’, has wrapped up its first week at the box office with an underwhelming collection of Rs 1.94 crore.
According to early estimates from sacnilk.com, the film earned Rs 10 lakh on Thursday. The film, directed by Shoojit Sircar, began its theatrical run with a modest Rs 25 lakh on Friday. While Saturday brought some hope with Rs 55 lakh, and Sunday added an estimated Rs 53 lakh, the numbers dropped significantly on Monday, and the week that followed. Thus, the film missed the Rs 2 crore mark in its opening week.
According to box office reports, the film’s performance marks the lowest collection for an Abhishek starrer in the actor’s career spanning over 20 years. The first week collections however, only managed to exceed his 2001 release ‘Bas Itna Sa Khwaab Hai’, which earned Rs 1.80 crore in its first week and went on to collect Rs 2.73 crore overall.By comparison, other early-career films like ‘Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost’ (2003) and ‘Naach’ (2004) posted slightly better first week numbers at Rs 2.11 crore and Rs 2.34 crore, respectively.
In contrast, Bachchan’s recent film Ghoomer fared significantly better, earning Rs 4.03 crore in its first week and concluding its box office run with a lifetime collection of Rs 4.83 crore.
Despite Bachchan’s dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim for his performances in the film, ‘I Want To Talk’ has struggled to find its footing. The film has been facing competition from the Kartik Aaryan starrer ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ and the Ajay Devgn starrer ‘Singham Again’. It also clashed with the Hollywood musical ‘Wicked’ which release on the same day. The upcoming weekend will also pose a significant threat to the collections, with the release of ‘Moana 2’ on Friday, November 29 and the release of ‘Pushpa 2’ the following weekend, December 5.
