Australian batter Travis Head has been a thorn in the flesh of the Indian side. Be it in the 2023 World Test Championship final, the ODI World Cup final in the same year, or the recent blistering knock he played in the Border Gavaskar Trophy in Adelaide when the game was right at the balance. However, while most of the Indians do detest Head during IPL Head plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad where he does receive quite a bit of love.
Speaking on his relationship with the fans Head speaking to CNN 18 said, “I take it as it comes. I respect the fact that India is such a big country with such a big following. I’ve been very fortunate to play well in a couple of games. It’s not in my nature so I guess I play it up in a jovial way. I some of the stuff that comes out, I find it funny in terms of Australia vs India or the result or my performance, it doesn’t spur me on anymore. I just go and try to enjoy myself, play well,”
“I’ve been put in a position against India quite a few times in the last 18 months and been able to play well but on the same note, they’ve played well against us a few times too. So I definitely feel that relationship with the fans,” he added.
However, things have not been as quite smooth sailing for Head. He told AAP in December last year: “I lost my (national) contract and then I went to Sussex and stunk it up there as well. I tried to keep batting the way I was batting and it wasn’t working.”
Then playing Kent at Canterbury, the match innings proved a turning point in Head’s career. “Then in one of my last games at Sussex I got 49 off 46 in the second innings and I thought, ‘F**k this, I am just going to slog’ And I did well, so I thought, ‘Why don’t I just do that?’” AAP quoted him as saying.
