NEW DELHI: England speedster Mark Wood has been ruled out for the rest of the year due to a right elbow injury.
The 34-year-old had already missed the final two matches of England’s three-Test series against Sri Lanka because of a right thigh muscle strain.
A statement from the England and Wales Cricket Board on Friday explained that Wood had experienced increasing stiffness and discomfort in his elbow during the Test series against the West Indies earlier this season.
Despite the issues, Wood continued bowling in Manchester, where England secured a five-wicket victory.
He managed the discomfort while bowling in Manchester, said the ECB.
Wood, whose career has frequently been interrupted by injuries, will continue to work closely with the ECB medical team on rehabilitation and management. Due to his condition, he will miss England’s upcoming tours, which include three-Test series in Pakistan in October and New Zealand in December.
The ECB expressed optimism about Wood’s recovery timeline.
The ECB said, Wood aims to return to full fitness by early 2025, in time for England’s white-ball tour of India and the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan, scheduled to begin in February 2025.
