The Delhi Police Saturday said they apprehended a 19-year-old man and a juvenile in connection with a series of violent robberies in Adarsh Nagar Thursday night. The two allegedly went on a robbery spree, wielding knives and stabbing victims to coerce them into giving up their possessions. Their attack injured five people, including a head constable, the police said.

The arrested man, Suraj, is a habitual offender with a criminal history involving six previous cases under the theft section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act, said the police.

According to the police, the accused duo executed a series of robberies within a short span, during which all three victims were stabbed. In one of the incidents, Mukesh, a pickup driver unloading goods at Kelvani Park at around 3 am, was attacked and robbed of Rs 1,200 and his phone. When a cab driver, Abhishek Pandey, attempted to intervene, he too was stabbed, said police sources.

As the assailants tried to flee, Head Constable Jaybhagwan from Ranjit Nagar police station, returning home after duty, witnessed the scene and attempted to stop them. He was also allegedly stabbed in the abdomen and shoulder during the confrontation. The accused subsequently went on to attack another victim named Chinmay, stabbing him in the thigh before fleeing with his mobile phone, said the police. Another victim, Sonu Kumar, was also allegedly stabbed and robbed near Shah Alam Bandh.

“The team conducted detailed examinations of all three complainants and recorded their statements. A meticulous investigation was launched, involving the analysis of CCTV footage from cameras installed in and around the crime scenes to establish the identities of the suspects. Local intelligence networks were activated, and multiple raids were carried out at suspected hideouts,” said Bhisham Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, North West.

He said that during interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in all three robbery cases and provided crucial details regarding the execution of the crimes. Acting on their disclosure, the police recovered two mobile phones, one laptop, cash amounting to Rs 41,180, one scooter, and one knife used in the crimes. Upon verification, the recovered scooter was found to be stolen, the DCP said.

Currently, four of the five victims are admitted to LNJP Hospital and one to BSA Hospital. All are reported to be in stable condition.
