Cyclone Fengal: Waterlogging reported in 134 locations in Chennai

CHENNAI:Heavy rains in Chennai caused waterlogging in 134 locations across the city on Friday morning, with the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) deploying 1,686 motor pumps to drain stagnant water.
Major roads, including OMR, Five Furlong Road, Mylapore roads, and Santhome, faced waterlogging. While water was cleared in eight areas, operations are ongoing in the remaining 126 spots.
Seven subways – Manickam Nagar subway in Manali, Stanley Nagar subway, Gengureddy subway, Villivakkam subway, Rangarajapuram subway, Pazhavanthangal subway, and Aranganathan subway – are closed for traffic due to inundations.
Cyclone Fengal Live Updates:
Among the pumps deployed, 137 are high-capacity 100HP units, and 484 are mounted on tractors for rapid deployment. In addition, nine trees fell due to the rains, of which five were promptly removed.
Relief centres have been set up at 329 locations, offering food, water, and shelter to affected residents. 22,000 personnel and 18,500 volunteers are kept on standby for rescue operations.
