Look ahead, was the hint that Mitchell Marsh offered while talking to the media at the Gabba on Thursday (December 12, 2024) afternoon. Asked about India’s victory here in the 2021 Test, the all-rounder was quick to react: “The biggest thing for us is about just focussing on this week and not what’s happened in the past. The way we bounced back after Perth was an example of that. We are focussed on playing our style and hopefully going 2-1 up the series.”

Asked about countering Jasprit Bumrah, Marsh said: “He is probably the best bowler in the world. It is just about getting up for that challenge, it is a big series. You want to take on the best in the world. That is certainly my mentality.”

Reminded about his dismissal to R. Ashwin at Adelaide in which the replays made it obvious that there was no edge, an embarrassed Marsh admitted: “I thought I hit it and so I walked off. When I got to the change-rooms, they asked if I hit it and I said ‘yeah I smashed it’. And then the replay came up and my head went into the hands and a minute later everyone else was laughing at me.”

As for his own bowling, Marsh replied: “I haven’t had to bowl too much so far but my body is feeling really good. I had a sore back. But right now it’s feeling as good as it has ever felt.”

Marsh also backed Steve Smith, Usman Khawaja and Josh Hazlewood. “Josh will do everything he can to get up for this game,” Marsh said and mentioned that Smith is one of ‘Australia’s best players’ while Khawaja is a local hero and ‘there is no doubt that the people will get around him’.
