BJP’s East Champaran zila parishad member shot dead, ‘land dispute’ suspected – Times of India

MOTIHARI: Three motorcycle-borne criminals shot dead member of East Champaran zila parishad and BJP functionary, Suresh Yadav (38), near Chandmari roundabout on Wednesday while he was coming out from Chandmari society complex. He was taken to a private nursing home where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. Police sent the body for postmortem to the sadar hospital.
Police said prima facie land dispute appears to be the reason behind the killing.
After getting information, SP Kantesh Kumar Mishra rushed to the spot and directed the police officers to scan the CCTV footage of nearby shops at Chanmari roundabout and other establishments to identify the assailants. The police recovered a motorcycle, which was used in the crime, as one of the assailants abandoned his bike and fled on foot towards Chandmari locality. The police claimed that the criminals would be arrested soon.
To protest the killing, around 100 supporters of Yadav went on the rampage on town thana road and vandalized the shops and establishments. The policemen were silent spectator of the act of mob, the shopkeepers alleged.
The deceased Suresh Yadav was native of Gokhula village under Banjariya block near Motihari town. He was also president of primary agriculture cooperative society (PACS) of Gokhula and secretary of Chandmari cooperative society complex of Motihari.
Mamata Ray, chairperson of East Champaran Zila Parishad, has demanded immediate arrest of the criminals and compensation from the government. Gappu Ray, president of District Congress Committee, has condemned the murder and demanded arrest of the assailants.
