New Delhi: Asking for a ban on reality shows such as Bigg Boss, Anil Firojiya, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Ujjain, said such shows, promoting obscenity in the society, had become a cause of concern for Indian families.
On Thursday, Anil Firojiya urged the Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to “immediately ban the telecast of Bigg Boss and other similar programmes, which have been promoting obscenity in the society”.
“Bigg Boss is a programme telecast in a major way across the country and is viewed by crores of people. In the beginning, this show was like any ordinary reality show but, over time, vulgarity and controversies have only increased—which is not only dangerous for those viewing it but for the entire society too,” the BJP MP said while raising the matter during Zero Hour in the Parliament.
Anil Firojiya also criticised the show’s host, Bollywood actor Salman Khan, for making light of controversial issues.

“And due to the popularity and personality of Salman Khan, who is the host of this show, the reach of this show has been increasing. But his role and vision for the country are often mired in controversies,” Firojiya explained.
He further said that Khan made light of serious issues, not showing issues with the kind of seriousness that they deserved.
The BJP MP added that the main attraction of the Bigg Boss show was its controversies and obscene conversations between contestants.
He further said the show was full of abusive language and even seemed to encourage and promote immoral behaviour.
Pointing out that the “dirty details of personal lives” of the contestants were, at times, also depicted publicly in the show, Anil Firojiya said, “Many times the ‘filth of private life’ of a person is shown in public which not only insults her/him but also encourages other people in the wrong direction.”
“This show promotes the mindset in society that publicising such incidents and making fun of them is a normal thing … this programme is having a deep impact on our youth and children,” Firojiya said.
The main concern, he said, was that the TRP of the show had increased due to the controversies and obscenities.
