PATNA: The Bihar State Education Department has implemented strict guidelines aimed at enhancing professionalism within schools. A recent notification has prohibited casual attire, such as jeans and T-shirts, for all officers and employees. The directive, issued by the director (administration) of the education department, Subodh Kumar Chaudhary, emphasises the importance of maintaining office decorum.
“It has been noticed that officials and employees of the department are coming to offices in attires which are contrary to the office culture. Wearing casuals in the office by officials or other employees is against the work culture. Therefore, all officials and employees should come to their offices in formal dresses only. No casual dresses, especially jeans and T-shirts, are allowed in the offices of the department with immediate effect,” stated the notice.
In addition to the dress code, the notification addresses concerns regarding inappropriate activities within school premises. Activities such as dance, DJ, disco, and other low-level entertainment have been banned, particularly those promoted through social media platforms. The notice highlights that such behaviours negatively impact the educational environment, which is deemed unacceptable. Only disciplined and appropriate programmes, such as dance and music on special occasions aligned with the academic calendar, are permitted.
Chaudhary explained that these measures aim to uphold professionalism in the education sector. He warned that employees found in violation of the dress code may face necessary disciplinary action. This move echoes a similar directive issued earlier by the district magistrate of Saran, reinforcing the commitment to a formal work environment in government educational institutions.
