Hollywood legend Richard Gere has announced that he and his family are set to move to Spain after years of living in the United States.
The ‘Pretty Woman’ actor, opened up about his plans to relocate with his family, while making an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The actor shared that his decision to move was a sort of mutual agreement with his wife, Alejandra Silva, who he says “gave me about seven years here [in the U.S.], so now we’re going to spend some years in Madrid.”
The couple and their family will be heading there soon, just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving in Madrid. “My wife is Spanish. Is this a problem for anybody out there?” Gere joked and added, “She’s already planning for 35 people for Sunday lunches.”The actor also noted that the change in residence would benefit his boys. “Our kids are bilingual, so they’re going to flourish there,” he said.
Despite the move, Gere reassured fans that he’s not leaving the US permanently. “Of course, I’ll be back,” he confirmed.
Gere joins a growing list of celebrities who have opted to relocate after Donald Trump‘s election win. Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, recently moved to England and are reportedly living in the Cotswolds. Meanwhile, Eva Longoria has divided her time between Mexico and Spain, citing concerns about America’s political climate.
Gere married Silva in 2018, and welcomed two sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4. Gere is also stepfather to Alejandra’s 11-year-old son, Albert, and father to Homer, 24, from his previous marriage to actress Carey Lowell.
