‘Look at own abysmal record’: India slams Pakistan’s remarks on Waqf Act

India on Tuesday strongly rejected Pakistan’s criticism of the newly passed Waqf Act, calling Islamabad’s remarks “baseless and motivated,” and asserting that the matter is entirely internal. In a firm statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Pakistan had “no locus standi” to comment on Indian legislation and should instead examine its own “abysmal record” on minority rights. “We strongly reject the motivated and baseless comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Amendment Act enacted by the Parliament of India,” said MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal. “Pakistan has no locus standi to comment on a matter that is internal to India. Pakistan would do better to look at its own abysmal record when it comes to protecting the rights of minorities, instead of preaching to others.” S...

Dating a Virgo? You’re not in a relationship. You’re in a performance review. – The Times of India

There’s dating, and then there’s dating a Virgo — which is basically auditioning for Succession but with fewer billion-dollar deals and more passive-aggressive to-do lists. While others get butterflies, Virgo’s partners get a monthly feedback session and a Google Sheet titled “Areas for Improvement.” Romantic dates? Sure. Just expect them to start with “So, let's circle back on your communication strategy,” and end with a slide deck on why texting back in under 10 minutes increases relationship KPIs. Virgos don’t fall in love. They assess love. They analyze it like it’s a crime scene and everyone’s guilty of poor grammar and emotional inconsistency. There are post-its, spreadsheets, and the occasional internal audit of affection levels. No one is safe — not even the cat. But don’t be mista...

Gloves on, Sanju Samson and KL Rahul gear up to throw fresh punches

Three days before India’s T20 World Cup squad announcement last year, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson went up against one other in the IPL, with one decisive shot at hand to make a last-minute impression before the selectors. While Rahul set up the game with a healthy 76 in Lucknow, Samson landed the decisive punch, scooping the game and the backup keeper’s spot away with an unbeaten 33-ball 71 helping Rajasthan Royals nervelessly gun down a 197-run target. Freed from captaincy shackles with a fresh middle-order spot at the Delhi Capitals, Rahul will share the stage again with Samson at the Arun Jaitley Stadium as the sub-plots slowly begin to take shape for the next iteration of the T20 World Cup, only 10 months away. New study finds no evidence technology causes ‘digital dementia’ in older people

In the 21st century, digital technology has changed many aspects of our lives. Generative artificial intelligence (AI) is the latest newcomer, with chatbots and other AI tools changing how we learn and creating considerable philosophical and legal challenges regarding what it means to “outsource thinking”.But the emergence of technology that changes the way we live is not a new issue. The change from analogue to digital technology began around the 1960s and this “digital revolution” is what brought us the internet. An entire generation of people who lived and worked through this evolution are now entering their early 80s. So what can we learn from them about the impact of technology on the ageing brain? A comprehensive new study from researchers at the University of Texas and Baylor Univer...

Earth Signs Choosing Stability Over That Spontaneous Love Confession – The Times of India

Picture this: a candlelit rooftop, hearts racing, someone blurts out a passionate “I think I'm in love.” Cue the music, right? Wrong. The Earth signs—Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn—are already calculating the emotional ROI and checking if the fire escape is a viable exit. Taurus pauses, wondering if the confession came before or after dessert. Because feelings are fine, but so is tiramisu. Virgo hears “I love you” and mentally drafts a 12-point checklist titled "Things That Can Go Wrong with This Relationship." Capricorn, meanwhile, checks if this declaration aligns with their five-year plan and if the timing feels like a solid investment. These are the signs who’ll choose a dependable routine over a surprise kiss in the rain. Not because they don’t feel—it’s because they feel responsibly. L...

Suarez bares his teeth again, this time at his teammate

A video has surfaced in social media of Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez biting the hands of his colleague Jordi Alba during in the 89th minute of a heated quarterfinal game between Inter Miami and Los Angeles FC in the Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinal. Lionel Messi netted a brace, the second from a spot kick, to mastermind a 3-1 win, but there was more drama in the game. The incident occurred after fracas broke out, when Marlon Santos fouled Suarez with a heavy tackle. Amidst opponents at each other’s throat, Frenchman Olivier Giroud grabbing the Spanish Alba by neck, Suarez is seen nibbling on Alba’s hand. He quickly apologised too, realising it was his teammate. It had none of the maliciousness associated with the three notorious bites in his career—Otman Bakkal (PSV) in 2010 (he was ba...

Mamata’s Bengali New Year wish receives taunt from Oppn and an invitation to Murshidabad

Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Suvendu Adhikari posted, “While Rome was burning, Emperor Nero was playing the flute! When communal violence is blazing in the state, it is natural for you to sing… But the melody of the song has become out of tune!” Congress leader Adhir Chowdhury said, “Chief Minister, your representative went to Manipur, and Hathras. Pulled The Hermit Instead of a Text? The Tarot Said “Heal,” Not “He’ll Reply” – The Times of India

Ah, The Hermit. The card that shows up not with a love letter or a sexy paragraph, but with a flashlight and a passive-aggressive suggestion to “do some soul-searching.” It’s the metaphysical equivalent of Carrie Bradshaw typing “I couldn’t help but wonder…” after being ghosted by Mr. Big for the fourth time. Someone expected fireworks, but the deck delivered a cave, some monk robes, and a cruel reminder that solitude is apparently “growth.” The Hermit doesn’t care about seen-zones, unread messages, or whether the last DM ended in a double tap. The Hermit says, “How about a long walk through your inner trauma forest?” And let’s be real—The Hermit is that friend who hears relationship problems and recommends journaling instead of revenge. He’s giving Eat Pray Left On Read. He lights the way...

‘How will I pay for my mother’s cancer treatment?’: On Bengali New Year, a pall of gloom on teachers who lost their jobs

While sweets are distributed and new clothes are worn on Bengali New Year, the occasion looks different for teachers and non-teaching staff in West Bengal who recently lost their jobs due to a Supreme Court order. Surojit Pramanik, a non-teaching staff member at a school in Krishnanagar told The Indian Express, “I had taken a loan and bought a flat. We were supposed to have the house warming ceremony today but that will not happen any longer. I don’t even know if I will be able to pay back the loan I have taken.” The Supreme Court had annulled the appointments of 25,753 teaching and non-teaching staff recruited through the 2016 School Service Commission (SSC) examinations, terming the entire selection process “vitiated and tainted”. Myth or fact: Those who walk fast are at a lower risk of diabetes

Type 2 diabetes is understood to stem from an abnormal balance of insulin inside the body. “This is probably because either the body mechanism has become resistant to insulin, or because it does not produce adequate amounts of the substance to maintain blood sugar control,” said Shikha Singh, nutritionist and fitness expert, Shiksfitness. A sedentary lifestyle is one of the key contributors to this condition. Limited physical activity or movement contributes to visceral fat deposited around internal organs, mostly in the abdominal region; it interferes with insulin action and impairs its proper working. Therefore, Singh noted that fast walkers have a far lesser chance of developing diabetes, making regular brisk walking one of the most effective and simple preventive measures. “A systemati...

Dr BR Ambedkar University Delhi informed the Delhi High Court on Tuesday that it would revoke the suspension and campus ban imposed on three students for allegedly violating its code of discipline related to ragging and bullying. However, the university expressed apprehensions that a few students who had “created ruckus” on the campus after the trio were suspended might again resort to protests and demonstrations. Justice Vikas Mahajan then directed the three students, who challenged their suspension and campus ban before the court, not to take part in any protest or demonstration directly or indirectly related to the matter being inquired into. Anan Bijo, Nadia and Harsh Choudhary were on March 5 suspended for a year, barred from entering the university campus, and further threatened with...

Campus Talk: University of Mumbai teachers protest over issues in NEP implementation

A group of college teachers under the University of Mumbai along with a few Senate members staged a protest at the Fort campus gate of the university on Monday, voicing their strong opposition to the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which according to them is “haphazard” and diluting the importance of core academic disciplines along with other concerns. According to the protesting teachers under the Bombay University College Teachers’ Union (BUCTU), several abrupt changes have been brought into the conventional education system without adequate groundwork or consultation in the bid to bring a flexible academic structure recommended under NEP 2020.
