From RCB camp: How mentor Dinesh Karthik helped Jitesh Sharma clear his mind

The Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper Jitesh Sharma has credited team mentor Dinesh Karthik for handholding him and helping him clear his muddled mind. “I think last year’s performance was a mental thing. I’ve told everyone about that, because I was not mentally in the game at that moment. I was thinking too much about the future. But now, when I met Dinesh bhai, he told me that it’s a human error, it’s not rocket science. It can happen to anyone. So it’s fine,” said Jitesh, whose unbeaten 40 from 19 balls went a long way in RCB beating MI. He went on to add, “When he saw how I try to dominate, how I look forward to all the games—he realised I’m someone who always looks to win. I don’t have a craze to get runs, I have a craze to win the match. I like that a lot. So he found out tha...

Ajit Pawar ‘reprimands’ Kokate at party meeting over farmer remark; NCP denies

Maharashtra Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Manikrao Kokate on Tuesday night was reprimanded by party president Ajit Pawar in a party meeting over his recent controversial statement regarding farm loan waiver, according to sources. The NCP, however, denied it saying the party chief barely asked all ministers to ensure that they remain available for the citizens in the party office as per the timetable declared and did not target any specific minister. Speaking at his home district Nasik while interacting with farmers affected by unseasonal rain and hail storms last week, Kokate had said, “Farmers take loan and wait for five-ten years for loan waiver. The government will give money to farmers to invest in agriculture. This money is for water, irrigation and ...

‘They say they’re Hindus, but…’: Rahul rips into BJP at AICC meet, taunts Modi & his ’56-inch chest’

Ahmedabad: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi signalled Wednesday, from the platform of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Ahmedabad, that the party is aligning its social justice agenda with the idea of pluralism—an apparent outreach to regain Hindu votes that it has lost over the past decade to a rising BJP. “We also call ourselves Hindus, but this is not our religion. Our religion is one that respects all and loves every person irrespective of caste, creed, religion and gender,” he said, referring to the act of a Rajasthan BJP leader sprinkling Ganga water to purify a temple visited by the state’s Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully, a Dalit. “Our Rajasthan legislative party leader, Tika Ram Jully, visited a temple. And the BJP leaders washed the temple following his visit. And they call ...

After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal about Life and Beyond

Dying was beautiful, peaceful, and graceful. I have been dead. I know the truth. And I am not scared. Although this book is based on my forty-five years of scientific research into NDEs, it was not written specifically for other scientists. And although I hope people who have had NDEs will feel that I have done justice to their experiences, I have not written this book for them. Rather, I’ve written this book for the rest of us, for those who are curious about the incredible scope of the human mind and about the deeper questions about life and death. Science can tell us what experiencers say about what happens after death, and about the consistency of their reports across different individuals and different cultures. But science at this point usually can’t tell us anything abou...

Omar was responding to questions being raised over a stroll and eventual photo with Rijiju taken Monday during the latter’s visit to the union territory. The photo came at a time when there was fierce roiling in Jammu and Kashmir — India’s only Muslim majority state – over the Waqf amendment law that was passed in Parliament last week.ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW VIDEO In response to criticism from rivals PDP, Omar told the media that the people who, while sitting in the lap of BJP, talked of ” doodh aur toffee (milk and ...

In a first, frame guidelines to protect property rights of orphaned minors, HC tells Delhi

In a first, the Delhi High Court has directed the state to frame guidelines to secure the property rights of orphaned children in the Capital. The High Court also issued a slew of directions to courts for the protection of such properties as it fixed the onus on the state as well as the district magistrate to “protect the interest” of the children. The state shall defend and institute all claims and suits on behalf of such orphaned minors, protecting their rights, the High Court recently said. The remarks were made when Justice Subramonium Prasad was dealing with two related petitions — the children had a history of being physically and emotionally abused by their parents. The petitioners sought the court’s directions to the state to secure the movable and immovable assets of their decease...

2020 Delhi riots: Further investigation against BJP leader Kapil Mishra stayed

A sessions judge in Rouse Avenue Court Wednesday stayed a magistrate court order directing further investigation against Delhi Law and Justice Minister and BJP leader Kapil Mishra over his alleged involvement in the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots. The Delhi Police Special Cell had argued before the court that the magistrate court that ordered further investigation (and orally stated that this meant an FIR) against Mishra over his alleged role in the 2020 riots in the northeastern part of the city lacked the jurisdiction to do so. “Kindly have the impugned order. Even this honourable court could not have passed this order. Let alone the ACJM (Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate) Court,” said Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, appearing before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja. Story continu...

‘Why did they go to district inspector’s office?’: West Bengal minister Bratya Basu as teachers who lost jobs face lathi charge

West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu on Wednesday questioned why a group of people who lost their jobs after the Supreme Court upheld the invalidation of more than 25,000 teaching and non-teaching appointments over irregularities in the recruitment process protested outside the district inspector’s office in Kolkata’s Kasba when “we had said we would try to find solutions”. “Why did the job losers go to the DI office? They went to protest. We had said that we would try to find solutions on how to return the jobs to genuine candidates. They were supposed to come and meet us with their demands and find solutions this week. Then, why the protest and scuffle?” Basu questioned, reiterating that the government would protect genuine candidates. A Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice of Ind...

‘Welcome move’: RBI rate cut brings relief for Mumbai homebuyers, boosts real estate sentiment

The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI’s) decision to reduce the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6 per cent has brought optimism to Mumbai’s real estate market. This marks the second consecutive rate cut in recent months, following a similar 25 bps reduction in February, bringing the rate down from 6.50 per cent to 6.25 per cent earlier. With rates currently at their lowest since 2022, home loan consumers in Mumbai, one of India’s priciest housing markets, are likely to gain through reduced EMIs and better loan eligibility. Banks are set to cut their lending rates, which will have a direct impact on monthly outgo for homebuyers. For example, a Rs 50 lakh home loan for 25 years at a rate of interest of 8.25 percent as compared to 8.75 percent would reduce the EMI by around Rs 1,600, helping borro...
