Danger In Delicacy! Cancer-Causing Chemicals Found In Pani Puri Samples Across Karnataka

Food safety officials in Karnataka discovered cancer-causing chemicals in samples of Pani Puri, a popular street food, media reports said. Testing revealed that 22 per cent of the samples collected failed to meet safety standards. Out of 260 samples tested, artificial colours and carcinogenic agents were detected in 41 samples. An additional 18 samples were deemed unfit for human consumption.  "We received many complaints about the quality of Pani Puri served on streets across the state. We collected samples from roadside stalls and restaurants from all over Karnataka. Assam Flood Situation Grim, Over 6 Lakh Affected In 19 Districts

The flood situation in Assam turned grim on Monday with over 6.44 lakh people affected in 19 districts, an official bulletin said. At least eight rivers were flowing above the danger mark, with the Brahmaputra breaching its highest flood level at Nematighat in Jorhat district, it said. Multiple agencies, including the NDRF, SDRF, army, air force and local administration, were engaged in rescue operations, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin said. A total of 6,44,128 people are reeling under the deluge, as Kamrup, Golaghat, Majuli, Lakhimpur, Karimganj, Cachar, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Udalguri, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Nagaon, Sivasagar, Darrang, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tamulpur, Biswanath and Jorhat have been inundated by flood waters, it said. New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday dismissed media reports that claimed it cannot conduct board exams twice a year. Media reports were claiming that the CBSE had told the Education Ministry that conducting board exams for classes 10 and 12 twice a year was not possible under the current academic schedule. "The imputation in this news item regarding CBSE's views on the matter is denied. It is totally incorrect and does not have any basis in any communication made between the Ministry and CBSE," CBSE wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). India Saw 536 Heatwave Days This Summer, Highest Since 2010: Weather Office

India experienced 536 heatwave days this summer, the highest in 14 years, with the northwestern region recording its warmest June last month since 1901, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday. The country recorded 181 heatwave days in June, the highest after 177 days in 2010, IMD Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said at a virtual press conference. "In 2024 summer, India experienced a total of 536 heatwave days, the highest after 2010 (578 days). In June, it experienced 181 heatwave days, surpassing 2010 (177 days)," he added. India, Pakistan Exchange Lists Of Civilian Prisoners, Fishermen In Each Other’s Custody: MEA

India and Pakistan on Monday exchanged the lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other's custody through a diplomatic channel, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said. Under the provisions of the bilateral Agreement on Consular Access 2008, such lists are exchanged every year on January 1 and July 1, the MEA statement said. "India and Pakistan today exchanged, through diplomatic channels simultaneously at New Delhi and Islamabad, the lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in each other's custody," the statement said.
