US Supreme Court Toughens Criteria For Charging Capitol Riot Defendants With Obstruction

The United States Supreme Court made it more difficult to charge Capitol riot defendants with obstruction on Friday, a charge used in numerous prosecutions, including against former president Donald Trump. The justices ruled 6-3 that the charge of obstructing an official proceeding, which was enacted in 2002 following the Enron scandal, requires proof that defendants attempted to tamper with or destroy documents. Only some individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack fit this criterion. This decision may bolster claims by Trump and his Republican allies that the Justice Department has been unfair to Capitol riot defendants, news agency AP reported. It's unclear how this ruling will impact the case of Trump in Washington, although special c...

Shoaib Akhtar Slams England Decision-Making, Makes ‘Einstein’ Reference

Legendary Pakistan bowler Shoaib Akhtar has slammed the England cricket team's decision to elect to bowl after winning the toss against India in the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final. India piled up 171 runs in their 20 overs, a total that always seemed like an uphill climb for the English batters. Ultimately, England fell short by a whopping 68 runs. After the game, Akhtar wondered what had inspired England to choose to bowl, given the might and variety of India's bowling lineup. "Someone please tell me which Einstein adviced England to bat second. What scientist do they have?" questioned a puzzled Akhtar after the game on his YouTube channel. "Against a team that has Axar Patel, a match-winner like Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja. Then they have Jasprit Bumrah. So who advised you to win th...

Kohli’s Glorious Streak Ends, Does Forgettable First As Poor Form Continues

India's T20 World Cup semi-final against England turned out to be an another flop show for star batter Virat Kohli as he once again failed to deliver a strong performance. Asked to bat first, India started off on a good note with skipper Rohit Sharma and Kohli showing some intent. However, England pacer Reece Topley quickly struck and dismissed Kohli for nine in the third over of the innings. This was Kohli's fifth single-digit score at the ongoing T20 World Cup. With this low score, the right-handed batter also recorded a new career low. This was the first time that Kohli got out without hitting a half-century in a T20 World Cup knockout match. Earlier in 2014, Kohli scored 72* off 44 balls against South Africa in the semi-finals. It was followed by 77* off 58 balls against Sri Lanka in t...

Russian Prez Putin Advocates Production Of Banned Short And Intermediate-Range Missiles

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Friday that Russia should recommence the production of intermediate and shorter-range nuclear-capable missiles, responding to the United States' deployment of similar missiles in Europe and Asia. This decision effectively nullifies the remaining vestiges of one of the Cold War's most pivotal arms control treaties, stirring fears of a potential new arms race involving the world's foremost nuclear powers, along with China. "We need to respond to this and make decisions about what we will have to do in this direction next," Putin told Russia's Security Council, as broadcast on state television, as quoted by news agency Reuters. "Apparently, we need to start manufacturing these strike systems and then, based on t...

Stalin on Friday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking exemption for Tamil Nadu from medical college admissions based on the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and advocating for the abolition of the exam at the national level. He highlighted the stress caused by the exam and pointed to recent irregularities as further justification for its removal. “I write this letter to once again reiterate our consistent demand to exempt Tamil Nadu from NEET for admissions to medical colleges and also to do away with this system at the national level. It has been our considered view that the selection process for professional courses should only be through the Class XII marks rather than through a separate entrance exam, which is an unwanted additional stress o...

Kohli Faces Criticism From Fans, Harsha Bhogle’s Post Can’t Be Missed

Harsha Bhogle has called out social media trolls for targetting star India batter Virat Kohli amid harsh criticism over his struggles in the ongoing T20 World Cup. Kohli, who is the leading run-getter in the history of the T20 World Cups, has managed just 75 runs in seven matches in the ongoing edition. Despite his poor form, India have managed to reach the final of the tournament, with others including captain Rohit Sharma contributing with the bat. While Kohli's form is indeed a concern for the team heading into the final, fan groups have taken it too far with their 'below the belt' criticism of the former India captain. Bhogle, who is regarded as the 'voice of cricket', has urged the fans to rally around Kohli during his rough patch, instead of targetting him on social media. "Sometimes...

Russia Should Resume Intermediate, Short-Range Missile Production: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday that Russia should resume production of intermediate and shorter-range nuclear-capable missiles and then consider where to deploy them after the United States brought similar missiles to Europe and Asia. Putin's move finally kills off all that remains from one of the most significant arms controls treaties of the Cold War amid fears that the world's two biggest nuclear powers could be entering a new arms race together with China. The Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, signed by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan in 1987, marked the first time the superpowers had agreed to reduce their nuclear arsenals and eliminated a whole category of nuclear weapons. The United States under former President Donald Trump formally withdrew from ...
