Two days after a 35-year-old woman and her two children were found hanging from a railing on the terrace of their home in Greater Noida West’s Haibatpur village, her husband and sister-in-law were arrested Saturday in an abetment to suicide case.
“The Bisrakh Police, based on local intelligence, arrested the accused and his sister-in-law from Purana Haibatpur near Double Pulya,” said an officer.
Following the incident, an FIR was registered at the Bisrakh police station under sections 85 (cruelty against a married woman by her husband and relatives) and 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after a complaint was filed by the brother and father of the deceased.
“The man and his sister-in-law… did not like the deceased and the man used to often thrash his wife over trivial matters. On the day she was found dead, the deceased had seen the two in an objectionable state,” said
Shakti Mohan Avasthy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Noida.
Police said as per the initial investigation, the woman went to the terrace and her two younger children followed her. Her eldest daughter, aged 10, was inside the house at the time.
No suicide note was found at the site of the incident, Diksha Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Noida, had earlier said, adding that police were alerted by the hospital where the woman and her children were admitted.
