A woman and her three children were killed and her husband was critically injured after their house collapsed in Dwarka’s Jafarpur Kalan area Friday morning as heavy rain, thunderstorm, and strong winds hit Delhi early Friday.
According to the Delhi Police, they received a call about the collapse of the house, located on farmland in the Jafarpur Kalan area, at 5.26 am. Two fire tenders were also rushed to the spot, and the teams found that the one-room house had collapsed after a tree fell on it due to the heavy winds, the police said.
Four people, identified as Vijay, Jyoti, and their three children, were trapped under the rubble of the house. They were rescued and rushed to RTR Hospital, where doctors declared Jyoti, 26, and her three children dead. Vijay has been admitted to the hospital for treatment, the police said.
Another incident was reported in the Chawla area, where a portion of a house collapsed, trapping some people inside. Delhi Fire Service (DFS) and traffic police personnel are carrying out the rescue operation.
Reports of trees being uprooted and causing damage to several houses and vehicles near AIIMS, Safdarjung, Aurobindo Marg, and other parts of Delhi due to heavy winds and thunderstorms came in. Several parts of Delhi, including Karol Bagh, Mayur Vihar, Rohini, Chandani Chowk, and ITO, were waterlogged after the intense spell of rain.
Officials said the Delhi Fire Service (DFS) and traffic police personnel are addressing the situation on the ground.
The inclement weather also disrupted flight operations at the Delhi airport, and airlines advised passengers to check for updates on delays.

Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert, but downgraded the alert status to orange later. The weather bureau also said the severe weather would continue through the early hours, with thunderstorms, squally winds, and intense rainfall expected to persist.
