A 17-year-old boy in the Seelampur area of North East Delhi was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of people on Thursday evening, the police said, adding that a search is underway to nab the accused.

According to the police, the incident occurred in the J block area of New Seelampur around 5.30 pm.

A police officer said that the relatives of the victim had cast their doubts on the role of a local “lady don” of the Muslim community behind the murder, sparking communal tensions in the area.

“The injured person had been taken to JPC Hospital. Upon reaching the hospital, the attending doctors informed the police team that the victim had succumbed to his injuries during treatment,” the police said in a statement on Thursday.

The family of the victim staged protests near their house, and many Hindu families taped posters of ‘Madad Karo’ (Help) on their houses, calling out for help from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta. There were also posters threatening mass Hindu ‘exodus’ from the area, and asking people to buy their houses.

“A crime team was called to inspect the scene. A case has been registered at Seelampur police station, and teams have been deployed to identify and apprehend the culprit. An investigation is currently underway,” said an officer.
