Ball of the Century, Pakistan edition: Watch Yasir Shah do a Shane Warne

Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah stunned Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis on the first delivery of the 56th Over of Sri Lanka’s second innings of the ongoing first Test at Galle on Monday. The right-arm spinner pitched the ball outside the leg-stump and with some help from the pitch, the ball ended up hitting the top of the off-stump. It left Mendis, who was batting on 76, completely squared up. The batter kept watching the jaw-dropping sight for a moment. This delivery by Shah is being compared with Shane Warne’s ‘ball of the century’ which the legendary spinner had bowled to Mike Gatting in the year 1993. WATCH: Pakistan’s Yasir Shah rekindles memories of Shane Warne’s ‘Ball of the Century’ with a similar dismissal | Cricket News – Times of India

GALLE: Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah on Monday rekindled memories of Shane Warne's 'Ball of the Century' to dismiss Sri Lankan batter Kusal Mendis. Shah produced this peach of delivery during the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle. The delivery and the mode of dismissal were remarkably similar to the delivery Warne had produced to dismissing England's Mike Gatting in 1993. On Day three of the Test match during Sri Lanka's second innings, Shah delivered an absolutely unplayable delivery that pitched well outside the leg stump and hit the top of the right-hand batter's off stump after spinning unbelievably. "It's every bowler's dream to get a five-for in Test cricket and the same goes for me," Nawaz told reporters. "I am very happy and I will keep working hard and repeat this kind of performance again." Babar Azam wants balance between proactive approach and playing as per situation demands | Cricket News – Times of India

KARACHI: Pakistan captain Babar Azam has admitted that his team needs to strike a judicious balance between playing a proactive brand of cricket and adapting to situations when it needs to employ a defensive approach. Pakistan's go-slow batting approach during their last home series against Australia was criticised as Babar's men couldn't for once score at a rate of more than three runs per over in all the innings played during the three games. "We are trying to change the way we play Test cricket. Not easy for batters when the other team is dominating you," Babar said ahead of the team's upcoming WTC tour of Sri Lanka. "We want to play positively irrespective of the situation but it is only on a given day that we can decide how to win the match and our strategy," Babar added. However t...

We did not want to play into Australia’s hands: PCB chief Ramiz on pitch criticism | Cricket News – Times of India

KARACHI: PCB chairman Ramiz Raja on Wednesday defended the use of a flat track for the first Test, saying they did not want to play into Australia's hands by preparing a track that would assist pace and bounce. The series-opener ended in a high scoring dull draw on Tuesday. The Rawalpindi track, where Just 14 wickets fell in five days with 1,187 runs scored by both teams, drew criticism from some former players, critics and fans alike. "I understand fans' frustration and the result would have been good but this is a three-match series. We need to remember that there is a lot of cricket to come," Ramiz said in a video message released by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
